- Description
Gamay is regarded as one of the lightest-bodied red grape varieties, famous for its expressive flavours and minimal tannin. When a small parcel from Woodside in the Adelaide Hills was offered to Ashton Hills, we couldn’t resist the opportunity.
- Nose
Blackcurrant pastels and blood plum combine with boiled confectionary and a hint of green herb for a complex and enticing nose.
- Mouth
Dark fruits and earthy beetroot notes envelope the palate with a hint of Christmas cake spice sitting in the background. Chalky tannins and a crisp fresh acid line bring the wine together and ensure a long expressive finish.
- Growing Conditions
Reduced yields from the 2022 harvest were the result of poor fruit set due to a cold spring. This turned out to be a blessing, with a cool summer pushing the majority of our harvest into the last week of March and early April. Ripening of the small berries and bunches was long and slow which has resulted in wines with intense colour, flavour, concentration and structure.
- Food Pairing
Creamy French chicken tarragon.
