Description

The 2015 growing season in the Adelaide Hills delivered excellent ripening conditions, with warm days resulting in great flavour development and cool nights ensuring good retention of acid.

Starting in the first week of March, this was our earliest vintage on record and despite modest yields, the consistency in temperature and fruit ripening resulted in a vintage of outstanding quality.

Half of the 2015 Reserve Pinot Noir came from our original plantings which are now 33 years old. Three of our five preferred Estate clones contributed to this wine - D5V12 (55%), Martini (27%) and 777 (18%) - while a third of the wine was matured in new French Oak.

Drink now or cellar for around 10 years for significant further complexity.

Professional Reviews

“Assertive bouquet of fine, cedary oak, clove and walnut husks, but well meshed in pickled and fresh dark cherry fruit with just a whiff of cranberry. The palate is gently sappy, sticks softly to the palate, shows excellent length, offers bright, forward, amaro-kissed cherry fruit character, a touch of breathy kirsch as it lingers. Gentle yet loaded with flavour, it’s a complex, elegant pinot noir of easy access, control and yet assertion. Delighted to see it.”

“Highly aromatic with sweet sour cherry and undergrowth. Textured, warm and spicy with a rounded character and some fine spiciness, as well as some herbs.”

"Deepish red colour with a trace of purple and brick-red in the rim. The bouquet is complex, earthy, oaky and mellow, with some forward-developed meaty, charcuterie and animal nuances. There are definite stalky, whole-bunch nuances. Pepper, crushed seashell notes. The palate is sinewy and edgy but has excellent depth of fruit flavour as well, and is loaded with character. A wine of intensity, depth and exceptional persistence, as well as charm. It's already complex but it's young and shows signs of becoming substantially moreso with time. Very impressive."
